It was another packed out #KittenCamp over in Covent Garden last night as we kicked off our Social Media Week extravaganza. A massive thanks to everyone who joined us for the LOLz!
It was possibly the closest meme-off we’ve ever seen, with We Are Social’s founder, Robin Grant, matching our meme master round for round and ending the battle with a draw. Yep that’s right folks… the coveted Standing Cat Cup was split in two – that’s 6kb of virtual glory each!
We were joined by Barry Christie from JWT giving us an awesome behind the scenes glance into the agency’s recent Android KitKat campaign and Google’s partnership with Nestle. Followed by uber-geek creator, Tom Scott, chatting about interweb fame and how his recent London transport joke went viral overnight.
Finally, to end the evening we were treated to an appearance from comedian, writer and well-known ‘hater hater’, Isabel Fay. Chatting about her love affair with internet trolls and her recent short film comedy smash, With or Without U2.
Following a rather sad music copyright refusal from U2’s record label (booooo!), Fay managed to launch a mass social media campaign to get through a copy-right loophole and convince a choir half way across the world to sing the sound track to her comedy short live at the LA Comedy Film Festival. And it worked, BIG TIME, getting coverage all over the web and bagging her first prize in the festival. If you’re looking for a case study on the power of social media and crowed sourced support then this is it!
We’ll be running another event as part of Internet Week Europe in November so watch this space for details if you want to grab a ticket before they sell out!
